World Cup Predictions

In this guide, we will walk you through this season’s World Cup betting tips. We will take a look at both the odds for favourites to win the World Cup and some overlooked underdogs.

This tournament is special as the World Cup takes place during the winter between November 21st, 2022, and December 18th 2022, causing a long pre-Christmas break in the middle of the European club football season.

The implications will be massive in club football, the World Cup could make or break a club’s season. But for the four weeks, fans will be thinking about their country rather than their club….

World Cup predictions for the top teams

As of right now, there are six teams that we can consider to be favourites to win the World Cup. Six front-runners, these are:

  • Brazil
  • England
  • France
  • Argentina
  • Spain
  • Germany

There are a few other teams that are up there such as the Netherlands, Portugal and Belgium but they are not favoured nearly as much as the previously mentioned teams.

The odds are significantly lower but this is not something to be put off by, it’s more of an opportunity. The World Cup offers the most unpredictable action that football has to offer. It’s a cliche but anything can happen.

This being said, there are also some dark horses in the mix. Denmark, Croatia and Uruguay fit this category. One of our longshot World Cup predictions is Uruguay, they have an incredibly underrated squad that’s jam packed with stars. Including Fede Valverde, perhaps the most underrated footballer in the world. Keep your eye on La Celeste.

Back to the big boys, the six favourites all have fantastic chances of winning the competition. But the overall favourite is the first team we mentioned, Brazil. Brazil have by far the easiest looking group on paper, it would come as a complete shock if they are knocked out at the group phase.

Germany and Spain share a group and are both tipped to go through. They meet on the 27th of November at 19:00. Add that to your calendar!

England, like Brazil, has a very easy group on paper. They will be facing the USA, Wales and Iran who are all much worse than England. France also has a relatively easy ride as does Argentina. We expect at least ⅚ of these teams to qualify.

Other factors do come into it, and we are going to rank some game-changing categories.

Best Coach:

  • Brazil: Tite
  • France: Didier Deschamps
  • Spain: Luis Enrique
  • Germany: Hansi Flick

Best Young Players:

  • England
  • France
  • Spain
  • Germany

Most Tournament Experience:

  • Brazil
  • France
  • England
  • Argentina

Best Form:

  • Argentina
  • Brazil
  • Spain
  • France

For us, the best value favourite to bet on is the overall favourite: Brazil. They are the favourite for a reason, they have a fantastic squad full of exceptional players who are mostly in-form. The depth is unbelievable. They make up one of our World Cup predictions’ scenarios.

They are 4/1 to win at 888sport, check this out here!

If your World Cup predictions need an underdog, we gotcha covered. Let’s compare the four ‘Tier 2’ sides (Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Croatia and Uruguay) so we can see who is the most logical to bet on.

Easiest Group:

  • Netherlands: (Qatar, Ecuador and Senegal)
  • Denmark: (France, Australia and Tunisia)
  • Croatia and Belgium: (Canada and Morocco)
  • Portugal and Uruguay: (South Korea and Ghana)

Best Coach:

  • Croatia: Zlatko Dalic
  • Belgium: Roberto Martinez
  • Netherlands: Louis van Gaal

Best Young Players:

  • Netherlands
  • Portugal
  • Uruguay

Most Tournament Experience:

  • Netherlands
  • Uruguay
  • Portugal

Best Form:

  • Netherlands
  • Croatia
  • Denmark

On paper, the best value team is the Netherlands, but we are going against statistics on this one. The strength of the Uruguay squad is massively underrated. The South American team spirit they bring will also be crucial. It may be one of our bolder World Cup predictions, but we think the Uruguayans can do it. They are 50/1 at 888Sport!

Other World Cup markets to consider

World Cup outright betting is very vast, there is more than just the outright winner of the tournament to bet on, there are plenty of markets that all come with their own strategies. We will take you through a couple of these to get you started.

To kick things off we have the ‘to make it out of the group’ bet. This is very self-explanatory there are yes and no odds for each team to qualify. As we already have the complete group schedule available to us. You can easily rank teams based on stats and their odds to go all the way, there are plenty of tools available to aid your World Cup predictions.

There are a few teams that have particularly good odds to make it out of the group. These being:

  • Senegal: 8/11
  • Wales: 11/10
  • USA: 1/1
  • Uruguay: 1/2
  • Switzerland: 1/1

These teams all have great prospects to go through and are all offering in and around even returns. They will require high stakes but will make a great addition to your World Cup predictions. All of these odds are courtesy of Bet365.

This market is popular because of the ease of it. Because we have so long to analyse the schedules it becomes easier to pick who will be able to qualify. You can qualify from just four points under the right circumstances!

A similar market to this that is equally as popular is the ‘Group winner’ bet. It’s the step up from qualifying, topping the group. Being the best team of the four and when you look at the groups, most have a clear favourite.

But don’t bank on them, the World Cup is notorious for its unpredictability. It makes making World Cup predictions increasingly difficult. In the past we’ve seen Croatia make the final, Costa Rica top a group with England and Italy in and Turkey make the semis. These are just a few examples of some of the insane underdog stories we see.

Favourites in the betting markets are often overpriced and looking for underdogs with high odds in groups where there is a clear favourite and a clear worst team with no real shot at advancing is a good approach. Sometimes the top teams don’t even need to lose to not win their groups, an underwhelming tie could be enough for the second or third-best team to ship the given group.

At Bet365, you can combine multiple group winner odds together to form an accumulator. An example of this following some underdogs would be:

  • Croatia to win group
  • Germany to win group
  • Uruguay to win group
  • 21/1

This would return a profit of £210 from a tenner stake! It could be as easy as that.
