Football has always been an integral part of English culture, so it's no surprise that alongside their neighbours, Scotland, England were the first national team to be formed. Over their history, they have had some periods of greatness and some less inspiring times, but their passion for football has always remained the same.
During the last 30 years, there have been many a lot of near misses from glory, including in last year’s world cup. With little hope before the tournament, last year saw them defy odds with a young squad and a new manager, which resurged hope for the future and Three Lion's TV listings are now looked forward to more than ever. With the next major event coming in May 2019, for the semi-finals of the nations league.
Colours and Crest
Throughout their history, England have always played in white or red as their home and away colours, although also wore grey once before. Their crest is the famous three lions, which is where they take their nickname from and the famous Three Lions (Football's Coming Home), their unofficial anthem, takes its’s name from.
Since their inception, the three lions have always played inside Wembley Stadium, apart from a few years when it was being renovated and they played in a variety of stadiums.
Stats and Records
Since the birth of the team, they have qualified for the World Cup 18 times and the European Championships 9 times. They have won the prior just once in their history, back in 1966, and come fourth twice including last year, while in the latter they have only reached 3rd place twice.
Key players right now for England are Harry Kane, the World Cup Golden Boot winner and Captain, and Raheem Sterling, who is sublime form at the moment for club and country.
England’s only real honour is their World Cup Win in 1966. However, they are also now in with a chance of gaining more silverware at the Nations League, where they have qualified for the semi-finals in May 2019, which you can watch on three lions live streams or on tv.
Memorable TV Moment
Naturally, one of the biggest Three Lions on TV moments was the 1966 World Cup Win against West Germany in a 4-2 thriller. Here the famous commentary of "There's some people on the pitch, they think it's all over, it is now!" occurred as the final goal was scored by Geoff Hurst in the closing moments. More recently though, the nail-biting penalty shoot-out against Colombia, or indeed, any match in the 2018 World Cup campaign will definitely remain in fans memories for year.
