Historical Background
Any football and TV sport fan worth their salt would know of the famous Real Madrid C.F., one of the most prominent football clubs around. But where did this mighty team start from and what makes them so highly respected? Here's what you should know if you plan on watching Real Madrid on TV!
Real Madrid Club de Fútbol (Spanish for 'Royal Madrid Football Club') has been around for over a century, since it was founded on 6th March in 1902! However, back in its humble beginnings, it was only known as the Madrid Football Club.Â
The club started being called by its current name in 1920, when it received the title of 'Real' by King Alfonso XIII. Moreover, Real Madrid is one of the founding teams of the most significant Spanish football league, known as La Liga, making La Liga on TV great for sport on TV today!
Kit, Crest and Colours
The players of Real Madrid have been wearing their iconic all-white home-kit since the club's very beginning. When playing away from home, Real Madrid have traditionally played in all-blue and all-purple kits. However, other colours have been used as well, namely, green, orange, red and, their current colour, black.
Real Madrid's crest started out as an artistic design of the club's original acronym MCF coloured blue. Later designs used far simpler representations of the acronym enclosed within a circle, but still in blue. In 1920 the crest started bearing the royal crown.
However, when Spain got rid of its monarchy in 1931, the club lost both the crown and its 'Real' title, but added the dark mulberry band symbolic of the Region of Castile. But, in 1941, Real Madrid regained both the crown and the title, and also kept the Castilian band.
Stadium
Real Madrid has changed home stadiums a few times in its lifetime, before finally settling to its current stadium, the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, which they have occupied since 1947. Real Madrid Castilla, Real Madrid's reserve team, on the other hand, has as its home stadium the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium.
Key Players
How can an article on Real Madrid be complete without mentioning the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo? Often considered one of the best players to ever grace the field, Ronaldo has built a legacy for himself after scoring an incredible 450 goals for Real Madrid!
Another fantastic player that definitely deserves to be mentioned is Raúl González Blanco, who played for Real Madrid from 1994-2010! Raúl made an astounding 741 appearances in competitive, professional matches for Real Madrid and scored a respectable 323 goals!

Real Madrid has a massive list of incredible achievements, including being the club with the most Champions League wins (a total of 13!), the most La Liga wins (33 wins!), and the club with the most international wins (25 in total!) more than any other club around!
