League leaders Arsenal welcome Everton to the Emirates on Sunday, with the visitors having the benefit of a clear midweek while Mikel Arteta’s men were in Europa League action away to Zurich on Thursday.
Arsenal remain top of the table despite slipping to a 3-1 loss away to Manchester United last time out and they face another stiff test against an Everton side slowly gaining momentum under Frank Lampard.
Holding Liverpool to a derby draw last time out means that Lampard’s men are now unbeaten in five games in all competitions, suggesting the hosts are too short a price in the Arsenal v Everton betting odds to win – though the Gunners romped to a 5-1 victory on the Toffees’ last visit to North London.
Can Gunners fire again?
After a flawless first five games, it was back down to earth with a bump at Old Trafford for Arsenal. Despite dominating much of the match, the Red Devils ran out 3-1 winners and it could have been more.
Arteta’s gamble on a triple substitution at 2-1 immediately backfired when Marcus Rashford exploited a huge gap in the Arsenal defence to score the clincher, with a return home welcome for the Gunners.
On their own turf it is six straight successes in the Premier League for Arsenal, a run that has seen them score at least twice in each victory.
That includes the 5-1 defeat of Everton at the Emirates in May, in which five different players got their names on the score sheet for Arteta’s side.
Arsenal have conceded three games in a row in the Premier League now, while this game has seen both teams to score land in four of the past five meetings between the sides.
The 19/20 with 888Sport for both teams to score is therefore a good place to start in the Arsenal v Everton betting odds.
Siding with Everton could also be a solid value move despite Arsenal’s strong form at home.
It is four draws on the spin in the league for the Toffees – another draw for them is 4/1 with 888Sport, which also offers a tempting Toffees double chance option at a good price of 41/20.
Alternatively, the handicap market is another route to go for those willing to go with Everton here. At 3/4 with 888Sport, Everton +2 is a strong way to go against the home favourites for Sunday’s meeting.
Lampard searching for winning formula
While Everton have become harder to beat, they are still one of a handful of Premier League teams looking for their first win of the 2022-23 season. Everton’s sole success of the campaign has come in the EFL Cup, where Demarai Gray’s goal edged them to a 1-0 victory away to Fleetwood Town.
Regardless, there have been signs of progress for Everton, though they were grateful to a stunning individual performance from Jordan Pickford to preserve a first league clean sheet of the season in last weekend’s Merseyside derby against rivals Liverpool.
Only one of Everton’s seven games in all competitions this term has seen over 2.5 goals scored. It therefore seems safe to take the 6/5 with 888Sport for under 2.5 goals to land on Sunday.
Predictions
Arsenal’s momentum was halted at Old Trafford last weekend and it will be a test of the Gunners’ character to see how they bounce back from their winning run coming to an end.
While Everton sit above the relegation zone on goal difference, a lowly place in the league masks the fact recent performances have been improving fast, capped with a derby draw with Liverpool last week.
Arsenal’s home form is outstanding but Everton are tough to beat. The price for the Toffees double chance is too big at 41/20 with 888Sport, with Everton +2 offered at 3/4 on the handicap market.
Under 2.5 goals is another good option at 6/5 with 888Sport, while the fact three of Everton’s last four league games have ended 1-1 makes correct score odds of 8/1 with 888Sport look rather generous too.
