Read on to learn our picks and predictions for this fixture!
Seagulls flying in the Premier League
Graham Potter’s Brighton have been nothing short of superb for a long time now. They recorded a record high finish last season, securing ninth place after winning 12 league games and drawing 15. They have let two of their best players leave this summer in Yves Bissouma and Marc Cucurella, but this hasn’t stopped them in the slightest.
They travelled to the North West on the opening day to face Erik ten Hag’s Man United. They were underdogs for this fixture, but you wouldn’t have thought it in the first half. They pressed high and played United off the park, scoring two goals as a result. United pulled one back but Brighton’s defensive unit made it impossible for the Red Devils to get through.
As for Saturday’s game, Brighton will need to apply the same pressure. Newcastle have a side full of quality and can hurt in an instant. We could see Neal Maupay return to the starting XI or the first league start for Denis Undav. As for Brighton scorers, I can see Leandro Trossard grabbing one. His odds over at Bet365 are at 11/4 to score anytime.
Newcastle’s surge begins
Newcastle United have looked a completely different side since they brought in Eddie Howe. They play much more positive football and are well capable of grabbing results against even the best sides. They got off to a great start, beating newly promoted Nottingham Forest in a convincing 2-0 win at St James’s Park. A long-range effort from Fabian Schar opened the scoring before Callum Wilson doubled their lead.
The Geordies controlled possession and didn’t allow Forest to register a single shot on target. However, travelling to Brighton is a different challenge. With European football on their minds, this is the sort of fixture that’s a must win for Newcastle. A victory would put them in great stead heading into GW3.
This time around, I can see Newcastle’s source of goals being in midfield. Bruno Guimaraes has been phenomenal since signing for the club, he has a constant eye for goal despite playing deep. His odds to grab a goal anytime are at 7/1! A steal if you ask us.
Brighton vs Newcastle odds and predictions
As mentioned prior, the odds for this fixture are fairly split. Brighton are 11/8 to win, while Newcastle are 2/1. Both sides have a great chance to win, they are in a very similar boat in terms of squad quality and ambition this season.
Both are eyeing up top half finishes at the minimum with European football being the ultimate goal. A draw seems like the happy medium for this fixture, but I think there will be a winner.
I think the slight underdogs Newcastle will grab all three points with Bruno Guimaraes and Callum Wilson grabbing the goals for the Toon, and Leandro Trossard scoring for Brighton. A 2-1 Newcastle win offers 11/1 odds.
It’s the battle of the birds, Seagulls vs Magpies- who do you think will come out on top?
