England want to finally bring it home
England have had a pretty successful run of it lately in major tournaments. They haven’t yet won anything since 1966 but they have came very close.
At the last World Cup they made the semi-finals for the first time since 1990 but were narrowly defeated by Croatia after extra-time. The next tournament was the Euros and this time England took it a step further.
With some fantastic performances on the way, Southgate’s side were able to reach the final! Once again it wasn’t to be for England as they were defeated on penalties.
This brings us to now. If England can keep up the trend of doing one better each tournament, then they’re set to bring it home…
The next team standing in their way is Senegal, who they’ve never played against in a competitive match so there’s no history between them. It will be a tough match though, Senegal have been impressive this tournament.
Our England Pick
The England vs Senegal odds have England as the favourites to win. We think they might be right, our England based pick is:
- Match Result: England
- Both teams to score? Yes
- 3/1

Senegal winning in Mane’s absence
By the far the biggest story to come out of the Senegal camp this winter was the news that Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane would not be travelling due to an injury.
This was a massive blow for the Senegalese as he is by far their best player and was a key factor in them winning AFCON earlier in the year.
In his absence, Watford man Ismailia Sarr has been their main man going forward and he’s been nothing short of brilliant. As have the rest of the team. Senegal have an unbelievable team spirit and general desire to win.
They also have Chelsea duo Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy at the back, keeping things tight. The pair were both instrumental in the AFCON triumph and are brilliant for Chelsea in the Premier League.
The Premier League factor is very important as the majority of the English squad play in that league. So Mendy and Koulibaly will have plenty of knowledge on the players, which could prove valuable.
Senegal have massive motivations to advance further, this is their first time reaching the knockout stage since manager Aliou Cisse was a player!
Our Senegal Pick
We think that Senegal have a real shot of defeating England, they wouldn’t be the first team to stun them.
- Match Result: Senegal
- Both teams to score? Yes
