Southampton begin a new era for the club at Anfield following the sacking of Ralph Hasenhuttl after four years, with the Saints having lost nine of their past 10 meetings with Liverpool in the Premier League.

The Reds will therefore welcome the visit of the Saints as they seek to continue to recover from a poor start to the season, though talismanic forward Mohamed Salah seems to have found his form again. The Liverpool v Southampton betting odds point to an easy home win, but is that good value?

Consistency eluding Reds

Liverpool’s owners have confirmed they are seeking investment in the club, with Reds fans likely to make their feelings clear on the issue at Anfield this weekend.

Hasenhuttl’s departure seems to have been on the cards for some time, with Southampton’s board making that call in the wake of a 4-1 home loss to Newcastle United last weekend. That defeat left the Saints 18th in the table, having won only one of their past five Premier League games.

Southampton look to be targeting Luton Town boss Nathan Jones as Hasenhuttl’s replacement. Jones has yet to take charge of a Premier League team and he failed in a spell at Stoke City, so it is unclear whether or not he would be able to inspire any immediate improvement for the struggling Saints.

Indeed, with Southampton having been losing at both half time and full time in five of their last seven away Premier League matches, whoever takes charge of this game is sure to be in for a tough task.
