World Cup Group E Matchday 3 Odds: Will Germany pull through and qualify?
Group E of the 2022 World Cup has been jam-packed with drama from minute one. There have been some freak results from all teams, Japan would have qualified for the last 16 with a win over Costa Rica but were stunned and Germany needed to take pressure off themselves with a win at Spain but failed to do so, meaning that it goes to the final day.
Before the competition started almost everybody assumed that Germany would have what it takes to qualify with ease, but this has not been the case. Costa Rica and Japan have shown massive signs of promise but let themselves down in crucial moments while Spain have looked comfortable throughout.
The Group E matchday 3 odds are very difficult to navigate due to the inherent unpredictability of the group, but we are here to share our knowledge and hopefully guide you into profits before the last 16!

Japan vs Spain
- When? Thursday 1st of December at 19:00 GMT
- Where? Khalifa International Stadium, Qatar
- Latest Result: Spain 1-0 Japan, April 2001 (International Friendly)
It’s been a pretty fantastic tournament for both of these sides and they’ll both be relatively happy with the position they find themselves in. Japan started their campaign with a historic win against Germany, coming from behind to win 2-1 against all odds. This put them in great stead to qualify.
The only team standing between them, and qualification was Costa Rica who were on the back of a 7-0 defeat at the hands of Spain! The odds were heavily in favour of Japan and us at TVG picked them to win. But Costa Rica gave Japan a taste of their own medicine in a shock result of their own.
This leaves Japan with all to play for, while Spain need just a point to secure their place in the last 16. Spain have been able to control possession and keep the ball very well so far thanks to the fine management of Luis Enrique.
We think that Enrique will set his team up to just get out of the group. A draw is enough and that will show. They will take less risks in possession and play quite deep. This leads us to our pick for this one.
The Group E matchday 3 odds have Spain as favourites to win but we think this one will end in a draw.
- Match Result Draw: 7/2
- Correct score, 0-0: 10/1
We can see this one ending 1-1 or 0-0. Check out all the odds at 888sport.

Costa Rica vs Germany
- When: Thursday 1st of December at 19:00 GMT
- Where? Al Bayt Stadium
- Latest Result
This is a game that will be difficult to call based on the previous results within the group. On paper, Germany remain the favourites with their talented squad, however the pressure is on them to win as they are currently sat bottom of the group with only 1 point.
They must win and hope that Spain are able to ease past Japan, if they’re to progress into the next round. Costa Rica can sneak into second place ahead of Japan if they draw this fixture, with only goal difference separating these sides after their 7-0 thumping against Spain.
With all things considered, it will be a game not to miss as seeing giants Germany potentially exit the tournament will be a massive shock and big boost for the other nations.
Manager Hansi Flick will surely set the Germans up with all guns blazing and try to put the game to bed early. They have skill and pace in forward areas. Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry all stand out.
It will be interesting to see if Costa Rica try to combat this by throwing numbers forward and imposing themselves on the game or if they opt to sit back, soak up the pressure and hold out for a draw.
We think the former is the more likely outcome of the two. Surely we won’t see the 2014 champions halted at the group stage again.
