Last result: Everton 0-1 Aston Villa
It’s match week 2 of the 2022/23 Premier League and we have some crackers on our hands… Aston Villa play their first home game of season, welcoming Frank Lampard’s Everton.
Both sides have had poor starts to the season, Villa were beaten by relegation favourites Bournemouth and Everton were stopped by Chelsea. The two will be desperate to claim their first three points of the season and re-write the wrongs of the first day.
Last time the sides met, Villa squeezed by, beating the Toffees 1-0 after a goal from Emi Buendia. A lot has changed since January, though, and this is very much anyone’s game.
Aston Villa with a rocky start…
Aston Villa started their campaign with a trip down south to the Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth. Many expected Villa to cruise to victory but this couldn’t have been further from reality.
Bournemouth were excellent on the day, playing largely on the counter after an early Jefferson Lerma goal set the tone. The Cherries absorbed everything that was thrown at them, and Villa were left scratching their heads as they travelled back to the midlands with nothing to show.
Villa will look to get back on track with the help from their top players. We could see Ollie Watkins return to the starting XI after Danny Ings failed to make an impact. With the strength of Villa’s squad, the pressure will be on Steven Gerrard this season. He will need to pick up form fast and beating out his old rivals Everton would be as sweet as it gets.
As for the Aston Villa v Everton odds, we would recommend backing Ollie Watkins to score last at 5/1.
Everton full of life
Everton lost to Chelsea in their Premier League opener but there were plenty of positives to take from the game. They kept Chelsea at bay for long periods of the game and were close to coming away with a point.
After a horrendous campaign last season, the Toffees will be looking to bring the feel-good factor back to Goodison. The last thing they need is to be dragged into a relegation battle. With Calvert-Lewin injured, it’ll be up to Anthony Gordon and Dwight McNeil to do the business.
Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard were massive rivals on the pitch and will now be sharing the stage again off the pitch. Debates on these two as players certainly divide opinion, but as managers, the pair still have it all to prove.
Aston Villa v Everton betting odds: Predictions
The Aston Villa v Everton odds are very interesting. Villa are favourites at 5/6 on Bet365, but this doesn’t mean they’ll win.
I can see a draw on the cards, a feisty affair, full of life and passion. I think the result will be 2-2. Bet365 have a 2-2 draw at 16/1!
As for scorers, I can see Anthony Gordon getting off the mark as well as Ollie Watkins. Gordon is at 15/4 to score anytime and Watkins is at 8/5.
How do you see the game panning out? Will favourites Villa bounce back after an awful opener? Or will Everton raid Villa park for three points? We prefer a draw but let us know your predictions in the comments!
