England & Key Players
Gareth Southgate has plenty of resources available this summer, and a few players stand out as the first names on the team sheet. Harry Kane has had a remarkable season with Bayern Munich, and although he didn’t win any trophies, he managed to score an impressive 44 goals in all competitions and is the second favorite to win the Golden Boot at Euro 2024.
Jude Bellingham has proven that he is one of the very best players in world football at the young age of 20. The former Birmingham City player has just lifted the Champions League trophy with Real Madrid and is a favorite to win the Ballon d’Or this year.
Phil Foden is another player who has been in excellent form this season. Foden scored more goals from outside the box than any other Premier League player this season, achieving eight assists in the league and 19 goals in total. Despite these impressive stats, he failed to impress in the opening game causing England to have virtually no attacking threat down the left hand side.
England has the best selection of attacking players they have had in many years, but there are some doubts about the defence with left-back Luke Shaw’s fitness uncertain. Given how England has lined up in recent matches and tournaments under Gareth Southgate, it is likely that The Three Lions will deploy a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Denmark & Key Players
Coach Kasper Hjulmand led Denmark to the semifinals in the last European Championship, but they finished last in their group with one draw and two losses at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Denmark did not get off to the best start in the opener against Slovenia, drawing 1-1 late on after leading for the majority of the game courtesy of a Christian Eriksen goal.
Christian Eriksen is now 32 years old but still one of their most imaginative and creative players, with an impressive 128 caps for his national team. The Danes have many other Premier League representatives in Rasmus Højlund, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Joachim Andersen, and Mathias Jensen. The team has a good mix of youth and experience, but their inability to score against Northern Ireland and Switzerland in recent games raises some concerns.
Predicted Lineups: Scotland vs Switzerland
Denmark Probable Starting XI
- 4-3-3: Schmeichel, Andersen, Christensen, Kristiansen, Bah, Hjulmand, Højbjerg, Mæhle, Skov, Olsen, Eriksen, Højlund
England Probable Starting XI
- 4-2-3-1: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Guehi, Trippier; Rice, Alexander-Arnold; Saka, Bellingham, Foden; Kane
Match Prediction for Denmark vs England
Considering the fact that England sat back after going a goal up and looked a bit shaky throughout the game, the winner for Denmark vs England is a tough one to call. The last time these two met at the Euros was in 2021 for the semi-final, where England narrowly won thanks to a Kjaer own goal and a Harry Kane penalty in extra-time. We think England will find a way to win it, but it’ll be a narrow victory. Our prediction is 2-1 to England.
