Preview for Italy vs Albania

Italy are the clear favourites heading into the opening game against Albania, and will need to ensure that they don’t stumble and miss out on a valuable three points considering their remaining opponents in the group consists of Spain and Croatia, against whom nothing will be guaranteed.

Just by taking a look at the difference in quality in their squads, as well as the fact that Italy have a 100% win percentage against Albania, it does not take much analysis to understand why Italy should be winning this game. With that said, Albania will not go down without a fight and do have the likes of Chelsea striker Armando Broja at their disposal. The young Chelsea forward can be a handful for defenders at times, so Italy will need to be weary of this threat.

Italy are also the current reigning European Champions and this will provided an added incentive to go and defend their title. Spalletti, whilst still new to the role is a manager who has proved himself at the highest level by winning the Serie A with Napoli and will have a strong spine of players to carry out his game plan, including the likes of Bastoni, Barella, Jorginho, and Scamacca.

Neither side are prolific in an attacking sense and both will set up to be hard to score against, but Italy without a doubt should have enough quality to get past a rigid Albania defence.
