Sunday Football
Sunday football on 4th Oct. kicks off at 12:00 and there will be 6 fixtures in the EPL which will be broadcasted on BT Sports, Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Main Event. Here are the previews from the 3 selected games we’ve highlighted and which we think will offer the most entertainment at the weekend.
Sunday football: Leicester vs West Ham
Leicester will be on high spirits following their astonishing 5-2 win over Manchester City and will look to make it four out of four by taking all three points against a very much improved West Ham United on Sunday.
The East London side meanwhile, will also go into the game full of confidence having swept aside a poor Wolves side 4-0, and will take inspiration in trying to repeat the same performance which saw them register their first points of the season after suffering back-to-back defeats against Newcastle and Arsenal.
Leicester City vs West Ham United Recent encounters
The foxes enjoy a relatively superior track record against the hammers. They have won six and drawn four of the last 12 Premier League matches played since 2014. The last encounter between the two sides saw Brendan Rodgers’ men come out 4-1 winners at the London Stadium back in January. Harvey Barnes, Ricardo Pereira and a double from Ayoze Perez were the scorers on the day.
Leicester City vs West Ham United Prediction
Leicester City are the big favourites to win this match and continue to lead the table on maximum points. Hitman Jamie Vardy who was last season’s top scorer, is already on five goals in his last three Premier League matches and is expected to add on to his tally against an inconsistent West Ham defence.
Do not rule out David Moyes’s completely out of this game however, as in the past they have shown they can rise to the occasion and create an upset. We also expect West Ham to score so it wouldn’t be a surprise if we end up having another goal-fest.
Predicted Score: 3-1
Sunday football: ManU – Spurs
Jose Mourinho returns to Old Trafford with his revitalized Tottenham side for what many consider to be the highlight fixture of game week 4. Both clubs have enjoyed midweek wins in the League Cup, though Thursday’s visit from the Europa League against Maccabi Haifa may complicate the Portuguese tactician’s plans against his former club.
After an abysmal performance in their opening game which saw them lose 3-1 to Crystal Palace, United had to ride their luck going past Brighton in a 3-2 thriller. Ole Gunnar Solskjaers’ men were outplayed for large parts of the game and should consider themselves lucky with Brighton having hit the post on five occasions.
Tottenham’s start to the campaign began with a disappointing home loss to Everton; which then saw them return to winning ways by sweeping aside Southampton 5-2 at St. Mary’s stadium. A controversial penalty decision against Newcastle United saw them drop two points with the magpies leveling the game following a late handball decision.
Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur Recent encounter
It’s a mixed bag when these two sides meet as you never know for certain where the result is going to go. United won the first match 2-1 when the two met in the first round last season, with the reverse fixture ending in a draw. That made it six wins each and four draws in the last 16 encounters between the two clubs since Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season in charge at Old Trafford.
Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction
It will be a very tight and evenly contested affair, but Manchester United hold a slight advantage over their opponents as they are playing on home soil. They will start as favourites to take three points considering their opponents will have played three matches in five days which is not ideal in terms of preparation.
Neither side has been able to register clean sheets of late so we can expect goals if the current trend continues even though recent matches had been settled by just a single goal.
Predicted Score: 2-1
Sunday football: Villa vs Liverpool
Aston Villa and crowned champions Liverpool meet up at Villa Park in what is expected to be a very difficult afternoon for the home side despite a positive start to the campaign. The Villains have started the season brightly having won both of their opening two fixtures in an encouraging start.
Despite a very promising start their main priority will be to secure yet another Premier League survival, and if they manage to secure safety early and exceed expectations it would certainly be considered as an extremely successful season for Dean Smith’s team.
The Reds on the other hand have started their defense to the throne where they left off, with three wins out of three including a conquering performance against Arsenal in their last outing. They are grinding out results and showing the same level of intensity that won them the title so spectacularly.
Aston Villa vs Liverpool Recent encounters
Liverpool claimed victories in both last seasons’ meetings, winning 2-1 at Villa Park and 2-0 at Anfield back in July. Villa’s last win over a weakened reds side came in the League Cup in a 5-0 trashing last December.
Aston Villa vs Liverpool Prediction
A comfortable victory for the away side looks to be the most likely outcome in this encounter. It is safe to say that Liverpool will carry on the streak of wins at Villa Park, and if they come racing out the blocks in the first half, then Smith’s men will be in for a long afternoon.
Predicted Score: 0-4
