Historical Background

Aston Villa is a professional football club based in Birmingham, specifically in Aston. In 2018, the club celebrated its 144th year, and since it first took to the pitch it has entertained and fascinated millions of fans across the world. The team has a bitter rivalry with fellow locals, Birmingham City. Every year, thousands of eager fans catch the Second City derby and watch the City vs Aston Villa live stream.

The team was formed in March 1874 and was officially known as the Aston Villa Football Club. It was formed by members of the Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel in Handsworth, which has since become part of Birmingham. Curiously, the team's first match was against Aston Brook St Mary's Rugby team, so the game was split between rugby rules in the first half and associated rules in the second.

With over 140 years of history, the team has gone through major changes, accomplishments, and disappointments. To this day, however, loyal fans continue to follow the team and are eager to know when is Aston Villa on tv next.

Stadium

The team is currently housed at the Villa Park, a UEFA 5-star rated stadium. Villa Park is the eighth largest stadium in England and there are plans to make it even bigger, and able to hold upwards of 50,000 audience members.

Colours, Kit, and Badge

The team's main kit consists of a claret shirt with sky blue sleeves. Shorts are white, and the socks are also sky blue with a claret lining. Similarly, the team's badge utilises the same colours, with a claret outline on a sky blue shield. A yellow lion stands on the shield, which also includes a white start for the team's European Cup win.

Ownership, Key Players, and Managers

Today's Aston Villa team is co-owned between the NSWE Group and the Recon Group. Over the years, there have been several players who have brought exceptional professionalism to the game, to the pleasure of those watching Aston Villa on tv. With 660 appearances, defender Charlie Aitken was a very familiar face in the 60s and 70s.

As the one who scored the winning goal in the European Cup final in 1982, Peter Withe is also kept in high regard, as is the coach at the time, Tony Barton, who replaced Ron Saunders midway through the tournament.

Honours, Noteworthy Stats, and Memorable TV Moments

The seven-time winner of the FA Cup and five-time winner of the League Division One, The Lions bagged their fair share of honours. The team also provided fans with unforgettable tv moments, including winning the European Cup, the European Super Cup, and the League Division Three. As fans who watched Aston Villa in the Premier League on tv would recall, they were able to get all the way to the second position.
