Historical Background
The club which founded as Preston North End F.C. was actually focused on cricket and introduced football as a means of staying active in the winter months. This happened in 1875, but by May 1880, the club decided to divert all of its attention to football.
In 1888, Preston North End became one of the founding members of the Football League, and in that year went on to win both the first League Championship and the FA Cup. For the next 70 years, the team remained in the country's top tier tournament, but by 1961 it got relegated to lower tiers.

As a result, Deepdale is the country's oldest football stadium to be continuously used by a major league team.
