Historical Background

Stoke City Football Club is a professional football club that plays in the EFL (English Football League) Championship, England's second-highest tier of professional football! They were founded in the 1860s, originally as the Stoke Ramblers, until changing their name to Stoke in 1878.

Then, they changed their name once again to  Stoke City in 1925, after Stoke-on-Trent was recognised as a city. The Potters went professional in 1888, since they were one of the founding members of the Football League (today known as the EFL), and have been kicking butt ever since!

Colours and Crest

The club's first crest, a stylised S, appeared in 1882, and was short-lived. It wasn't until 1953, when they used the shield from the Stoke-on-Trent coat-of-arms, that another crest would be used. Then, in 1968, a badge featuring two red stripes, a kiln, and the initials SC was used. Then, in 1977, another crest was seen.

It featured the Stafford knot, a kiln, the club initials, and red and white stripes. This was until 1992, when they used the Stoke-on-Trent coat-of-arms with the club name on top. The current crest was introduced in 2001, which features a shield with red and white stripes, the date 1863, and the names Stoke City and The Potters.

Between 1870-1915, the Potters used a variety of kits: the first kit had black-and-light-blue hooped shirts. There were many colour changes, including: maroon shirts, gold-and-black striped shirts, etc. It wasn't until 1918 that the team would decide on their permanent colours: red and white.

Stadium

It's uncertain where Stoke City played before 1875, which is when they moved to Sweetings Field. Then, in 1878, they moved to Victoria Ground, which served as their home for 119 years! So, in 1997, they moved to Britannia Stadium, now known as Bet365 Stadium!

Rivalries

The Potters have made themselves a few enemies over the years! Most notably, the Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion! Moreover, they also have a feud with their neighbours Port Vale, and when they meet on the field, the matches are known as the Potteries Derbies!

Notable Honours

The Potters have proven themselves to be excellent players by winning the Football League Second Division 3 times, the Third Division North once, the Southern League Division Two twice, the EFL Cup and Football League Trophy twice!

First, we have Jack Butland who won Player of the Year in 2019 and 2016! Then, we have Joe Allen who scored 6 goals this season and won Player of the Year in 2018! Then we have Danny Bath who currently holds a rating of 7.12!
