Preview: RB Leipzig vs Dortmund
Jadon Sancho scored his first Bundesliga goal of the season, when Dortmund defeated Wolfsburg 2:0 during matchday 14. On Saturday, January 9, he will have another opportunity to shine in RB Leipzig vs Dortmund. Can he help BVB to shorten the gap to the The Bullen? Jude Bellingham will miss the match.
BVB: Back to track or lost season
With an 8-point deficit to league leaders Bayern Munich, Dortmund fans have written off the championship fight for the time being. At least they could reduce the gap to Nagelsmann’s squad to 3 points and thus get back within direct striking distance.
Since the dismissal of Lucien Favre, BVB has won 3 out of 4 games. In the top match, they now have the opportunity to bump the Bundesliga season in a positive direction after all.
Leipzig is Bayern’s biggest threat
Although the two teams are separated by “only” 6 points, things look very different in Leipzig: RB improved to 2nd place after matchday 14 and is in a good position with a 2-point gap to Bayern.
After lacking consistency in the second part of last season’s campaign, Nagelsmann’s team will have to prove their quality on Saturday. Does the team have what it takes to win a top clash at a decisive moment in the season and take a direct rival out of the title race?
RB Leipzig vs Dortmund: Team news
Although Nagelsmann is known for plenty of rotation, he is likely to rely on his best starting line-up available for the top match. Hence, Upamecano and Orban will be set as centre backs. If Mukiele is fit again, he could move to the defensive right wing. He had been out of action against Stuttgart after a knock on his ankle. Halstenberg, on the other hand, will play on the left. In midfield, Sabitzer, Kampl and Olmo can be counted on. Angelino and Haidara are in position on the attacking wings. In the attack, it will come down to Forsberg or Poulsen.
For BVB, Meunier, Akanji, Hummels and Guerreiro will form the back line. In centre midfield, Bellingham will be out again. He is still suffering from a foot injury. Therefore, Can or Delany could move into the starting line-up alongside Witsel. The attacking line will probably consist of Reus, Sancho and Reyna. Haaland is in the front.
TVSportguide prediction for RB Leipzig against Dortmund
Leipzig seemed to be well on their way to challenging Bayern for the title last season. After the winter break, however, they lost their flow and dropped too many points. RB Leipzig vs Dortmund will show whether Nagelsmann has been able to lift his team to a higher level this year.
BVB looked like a sleeping giant for most part of the season. Terzic has now had about three weeks to bring new energy to the team. Against Leipzig, the time could have come for a first drum beat. Most recently, Borussia were able to boost their self-confidence in the cup and thanks to the 2:0 win against a strong Wolfsburg side. The team’s enormous potential is undisputed.
We therefore predict that Dortmund will show their quality at the right time and take all three points from Leipzig in a tight match.
