Can anyone stop Erling Haaland? Southampton are next up for Manchester City at home, with Haaland looking to extend his incredible goalscoring run at the start of his first season in English football.
Haaland has scored hat-tricks in three of his home Premier League games so far, with the Norway star’s latest match ball coming in a 6-3 derby demolition of rivals Manchester United on Sunday. City have won 29 of their last 36 matches in the Premier League, with their home form even more impressive. Pep Guardiola’s side have won 11 in a row at home in all competitions.
Southampton, meanwhile, have lost their last three games to slip towards the relegation zone. It is no wonder the Manchester City v Southampton betting odds point to a home win, but is that good value?
Goal glut at home for City
At home, City have been in unbelievable form so far this season, taking maximum points and scoring a whopping 20 goals from their four matches in front of their own fans.
Haaland’s form has been a huge part of that dominance, of course, with his three consecutive Premier League home hat-tricks showing he is worth every penny City paid to sign him from Borussia Dortmund. Haaland has 14 Premier League goals this season – twice as many as anyone else in the league to date.
City have scored at least three goals in their last eight home matches in the Premier League, so the handicap market feels like a good place to start given they are such strong favourites on Saturday. The 19/20 with 888Sport for City -2 looks a solid selection to kick things off, meaning they need to win by three or more goals for that to be a winning wager.
The 13/10 for City to score over 3.5 goals is another option worth a look at 888Sport for this one too. While 15/8 for Haaland to score the first goal with 888Sport looks short, it is hard to look elsewhere.
Saints struggling at both ends
It is a bad time for Southampton to face one of the toughest tests in world football as they have lost four out of their last five games in the Premier League to drop down the table like a stone.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have failed to make progress despite a large investment in new players over the summer and unless the Saints improve then the Austrian’s position could become under threat.
Southampton have seven points on the board and are only just above the drop zone, with their away form particularly concerning. They have won just once on the road in the league since February.
With Southampton failing to score in three of their last five league games, this is another route for a solid selection. City’s defence has not been great this season but 19/20 for a City win to nil stands out.
Predictions
Guardiola’s men have looked so good it is no wonder that the Manchester City v Southampton betting odds are heavily backing the hosts to collect another three points.
Value can be found in taking on the price of 19/20 at 888Sport for a City win to nil, given the fact Southampton have failed to score in three of their past five Premier League games.
Haaland to score first is worth a look at 15/8 with 888Sport given he has 14 Premier League goals so far this season, while the handicap market might be the road to go down for this one as well.
The 19/20 with 888Sport for City -2 appeals, as does the 13/10 for City to score over 3.5 goals.
