BBC Sport 1 and 2

BBC, The British Broadcasting Corporation, is one of the oldest broadcasters in the world and has been broadcasting sports on tv and radio for decades.

They still remain one of the most important providers of sport on tv today, but their service has definitely dwindled due to competition from sports on tv subscription services. However, they still broadcast a whole range of live sport on TV throughout the year, including some of the biggest events in the sport on tv schedule.

Football

Football has always been a huge part of the BBC sports agenda. While they do not show as much live football on tv today as they once did, they still show some of the biggest events in football on tv via their service.

They mainly broadcast English football on tv, with their biggest recurring annual showcase being the FA Cup football on tv, where they show multiple live games, including the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final. Highlights of the premier league on tv can be found on their well-known ‘Match of the Day’ programs, on Saturday’s and Sundays, and lower leagues via their Football League show.

They broadcast some of the biggest international games, with shared coverage of the Euro Finals and World Cup Finals every 4 years too. They also offer football talk shows, Football Focus, updates on the last 15 minutes of Saturday’s games and reaction on their Final Score program, and numerous other football show, including the Woman’s Football Show and the Irish League Show – anything and everything you can wish for when it comes to football on tv!

Cricket

The BBC currently don’t show any live cricket on tv, however, cricket on tv will return to the BBC in 2020. In a five-year-deal set-up with the England and Wales Cricket Board, they will broadcast over 20 games of both the Women’s and Men’s T20 matches.

These will include international coverage of the men’s and women’s test matches, as well as ODI and other T20s. You can already listen to live coverage of international and country cricket on the BBC Radio 5 Live service up until the end of the 2019 season, as well as staying up to date on the BBC website.

Rugby Union

Currently, we are right in the middle of the biggest event in BBC’s rugby on tv schedule. This is because they’re showing live rugby on TV free coverage of the 6 Nations tournament right now on BBC TV and iPlayer. They are showing all the men’s games and a few on the women’s games up until the 16th March and do so annually, being the only place to watch the 6 Nations on TV. Throughout the year, you can also catch more Rugby Union on tv via the BBC, with live coverage of more international and domestic matches, plus regular highlights.

Tennis

BBC is one of the leading providers for tennis on tv in the UK, with long-standing deals that will keep it on their channel for some time. By far the biggest tennis on tv event the BBC offer is Wimbledon, which they broadcast comprehensive coverage of. Although this is the biggest event they offer, they also offer coverage of other WTA and ATP events throughout the year, including ATP Queen’s, the ATP Finals and the WTA Eastbourne. However, for other big events such as the US Open tennis on tv, you will have to go elsewhere.

Golf

Although the BBC does not show much golf on tv, you can listen to much of the golf action live on their BBC Radio 5 live service, as well as follow the action on the dedicated section of the BBC website.

Cycling

The BBC offers a few cycling on TV events throughout the year. They currently have the rights to Live coverage of both the women and men’s, UCI Road World Championships, World Track Championships and UCI Track Cycling World Cup events which makes up for quite a lot of cycling on tv across the years.

As you can see, there are plenty of ways to watch all the most popular sports via the BBC’s numerous services. While their service isn’t quite comprehensive as it once was, you will always find one sports event or another going down on the BBC.
