Historical Background

Rotherham United Football Club is a professional football club that has recently joined the EFL (English Football League) Championship after being promoted from the English Football League One in 2018! Located in RotherhamSouth Yorkshire, this club was founded in 1925.

The team was created as a result of the unification of two former and older teams: Rotherham Town and Rotherham County. The team didn't waste any time to go professional, as they immediately joined the Football League (nowadays the EFL) in 1925!

Crest and Colours

It didn't take the Millers long to make up their mind on their kit's colours! The original kit had black shortsblack socks with gold stripes, and a golden shirt with a black V; this was only used for 3 year before switching to their current colours: red and white.

Their crest also didn't experience many changes: their first crest was the coat-of-arms of the Rotherham County Borough, which was officially given on October 22nd1947. This was before giving over to the current crest: a red shield bearing a windmill (a reference to Millmoor) on top of a football with club's initials, RUFC, on its wings.

Stadium

The club inherited a stadium from their predecessors when they were formed: the Millmoor Ground. This ground served the team from their inception until 2008, when the club decided on having a new stadium built: the New York Stadium, their current home, which they moved into in 2012. In the meantime, between 2008-2012, whilst the New York Stadium was being built, the team temporarily moved to the Don Valley Stadium

Notable Honours

The Millers have worked their way up to the top, and their victories prove it! They won the defunct Football League North Cup in 1946, the Football League Trophy in 1996, the Football League Fourth Division once, and the Football League Third Division twice!
