Graham Potter’s return to the Amex is arguably the story of the weekend as Brighton seek to recapture some form following the departure of their popular manager to Saturday’s visitors Chelsea.
Brighton have not won in the Premier League since Potter moved to Stamford Bridge, with the Blues having gone on a six-game unbeaten run to move up the table over the course of the last few weeks.
The Brighton v Chelsea betting odds point to an away win, but where is the best value to be found?
Seagulls struggling under De Zerbi
Brighton were flying high and touted as European contenders not that long ago, but they have found it hard to collect results since Potter left. His replacement, Roberto de Zerbi, is yet to pick up his first win.
The Seagulls have only taken two points from five games in the Premier League, so while they are still in the top half of the table they have been slipping away from the continental spaces in recent weeks.
Brighton’s issue is often scoring goals. Since a 3-3 draw at Liverpool, they have only managed to find the net once in four Premier League games, though that was at the weekend against Manchester City.
Chelsea have a decent defence so it could be a similar Seagulls story at the weekend. Brighton to fail to score seems to be generously priced at odds of 2/1 with 888Sport for Saturday afternoon’s game. Leaving aside a 5-2 win over Leicester, Brighton’s four home games have yielded just one goal.
Something else worth noting when assessing the Brighton v Chelsea betting odds for this game is that five of the past six meetings between the sides have been draws, four of them by the same 1-1 scoreline.
Draws halting Blues momentum under Potter
It seemed to be plain sailing for Potter in his first few weeks in charge of Chelsea, but perhaps the honeymoon period is now coming to an end for the Englishman. The Blues seemed to be moving into title contention but were held to draws by Brentford and Manchester United in their last two games.
After a 3-0 win over Wolves, Chelsea have only scored three goals in their past three matches in the league. That shows to some teething problems in their attack, which was the same as under Potter’s predecessor Thomas Tuchel ahead of the German’s surprise sacking by new owner Todd Boehly.
There have been under 2.5 goals scored in Chelsea’s last three games in the Premier League, so this provides an angle to assess in the Brighton v Chelsea betting odds.
At 11/8 with 888Sport, Chelsea to win seems solid value but an even better price could be on offer when under 2.5 goals is added as a combination wager.
The 31/10 with 888Sport for Chelsea to win to nil against Brighton is another avenue to explore as well.
Predictions
Chelsea are undefeated in six matches in the Premier League and Brighton have not won any of their past five games in the league, showing why the Brighton v Chelsea betting odds point to an away win.
A couple of draws have halted Chelsea’s progress of late, but their form is a lot better than Brighton’s so the 11/8 with 888Sport on Potter to celebrate victory on his return to the Amex is a good place to start.
Chelsea to win to nil against Brighton is also 31/10 with 888Sport, which is worth considering as well.
