Premier League 2021/22: Who gets relegated?
After looking into the favourites of the Premier League 2021/22 season, there will be another thrilling contest for staying up in one of the strongest leagues of Europe. We have asked the question of the Premier League 2021/22: Who gets relegated to the Championship? In the following, we have carried together our three relegation favourites and their situation ahead of the season.
1. Norwich -10/11 to be relegated
Norwich are a side that are constantly dipping in and out of the Premier League. They have been relegated from the Premier League 3 times since 2014. With two of these relegations coming a season after promotion. They are very much an up/down team. During their last Premier League season (2019/20), Norwich played some very nice football. It was a shame to see a positive playing side finish rock-bottom and be relegated.
Star striker Teemu Pukki is still with the Canaries. The Finnish forward won the Premier League player of the month award in his first month of English top-flight football. He scored 26 in 41 appearances last season in the Championship and will have a point to prove in his second Premier League season.
2. Watford – 10/11 to be relegated
Watford, like Norwich, have also come straight back up to the Premier League after a season long hiatus. They also share the privilege of being favourites to be relegated, being 10/11 to face the drop. Their last Premier League season was a very messy one. They went through three different managers throughout the campaign, with one manager (Nigel Pearson) being sacked just two games before the end of the season. At this point, it was still possible for Watford to stay-up- nonetheless Pearson was sacked and replaced with former interim manager Hayden Mullins. Unfortunately for Watford fans Mullins was unable to pull off a great escape and the Hornets were relegated.
Captain Troy Deeney is still a key part of Watford’s success. Ismalia Sarr is also one to watch, he is known for helping Watford to end Liverpool’s invincible hopes in the 2019/20 season. He was subject of transfer interest from Manchester United in the 2020 summer window and has had their rivals Liverpool keeping tabs on him this summer. If there is a man to support this Watford team survive, it is Ismalia Sarr.
3. Brentford – 5/4 to be relegated
The 2021/22 season will be Brentford’s first taste of Premier League football. They narrowly lost out on promotion in the 2019/20 season with Fulham beating them 3-1 at Wembley. Now the roles are reversed, and Fulham are back in the Championship with a young, fiery Brentford side taking their place in the Premier League.
Although Brentford are third favourites to be relegated, striker Ivan Toney has set his sights on winning big with Brentford. He said: ‘Winning the league is the success we want’ and went on to say: ‘If you don’t set crazy targets, you’re not doing it right’.
The majority of the Brentford squad have little to no Premier League experience, they’ll be a team to look out for. Sheffield United were in a similar position in the 2019/20 season, they had very few Premier League experienced players and managed to fight their way to a top 10 finish! This was very much against the odds. So while Brentford might be a favourite to be relegated, don’t write them off just yet!
